Lisa Clevinger, a licensed clinical social worker, has joined Commonwealth Counseling in Colony Crossing. Clevinger has over 15 years of clinical experience working with adults, couples and families. Her clinical specialties include: mood and anxiety disorders; adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; couple therapy; insomnia; coping with chronic pain; and grief/loss therapy.

Clevinger also specializes as a neuropsychiatric social worker for the treatment of trauma; post traumatic stress disorder; and neurological injuries such as mild traumatic brain injury. For instance, she works with those who have sustained concussions or other injuries from traffic accidents and who subsequently suffer from anxiety or memory problems. For those clients, she also helps develop a rehabilitation team linked to speech therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and testing neurologists.
As a volunteer, she participates in community education through speaking engagements at the local Brain Injury Association Support Group and Brain Tumor Support Group to provide educational and outreach services to members and their families.

Clevinger earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from James Madison University and her master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She became licensed as a clinical social worker in 1997 and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.

Clevinger, who resides in Midlothian with her husband Alex and their children, 8-year-old twins and a 6-year-old, is pleased to be working close to home. “I’m welcoming new clients,” says Clevinger, “and will be happy to work with them on any new challenges in their lives.”
