At its November 2 board meeting, the BCA Board of Directors voted unanimously to adopt a no-solicitation policy for the Brandermill community.
The motion by Director John McLenagan stated, “That the Brandermill Community Association adopt a policy of non-solicitation for all of its residential neighborhoods. That the Brandermill Community Association also develop a Brandermill Community Fundraising application for its members where the applicant must establish first that they are a resident of Brandermill; second, that a majority of the members of the local organization they represent are also residents of Brandermill. The purpose of this application will be to allow our residents to continue the charitable work that makes the community a good and safe place to live. This motion will not take effect until this application process has been developed and approved by BCA Staff and its legal counsel.”
The motion was developed by Director McLenagan after consultation with staff of the Chesterfield County Attorney’s office and the Chesterfield Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office.
Once the policy takes effect, solicitors will no longer be able to go door-to-door within Brandermill. However, Brandermill residents will be able to apply for an exemption from the policy for charitable or nonprofit fundraising efforts.
BCA staff will establish procedures and an application to handle the new policy and will determine where and how many no-solicitation signs will be placed throughout the community.
Once the signage is in place, the Chesterfield County Police Department will be able to enforce the no-solicitation policy.
