New Mailbox Information

Transition to New Mailboxes

New mailboxes of residential properties must be installed no later than December 31, 2013.

Purchasing/Ordering New Units

• Contractor/Vendor Purchases. To date there are four ARB-approved contractors listed alphabetically by business name: Acadiana Carpentry & Home Repair, Steven J. Clause, 467-4290; GSLBuilders, Dave Maiorana, 304-5646; MailboxesbyAkins, Vern Akins, 536-6804; and Major Creations by Minor, Jim Minor, 477-4888.

• Homeowner build-it-yourself option. A spec sheet is available at the BCA upon request. BCA staff will inspect the structure and installation upon completion for compliance.
• Homeowner do-it-yourself installation. In some cases an approved contractor will build the unit and the homeowner may pick it up, and following written instructions from the contractor, self-install the unit on the property.

Cluster mailbox units

One contractor, Major Creations by Minor, will install the mailbox cluster units. Prices of units and installation may vary between $130 and $150 depending on the number of mailboxes per unit and the mailbox environment. Before an order for a new mailbox cluster unit can be accepted, all property owners must submit cash or a check payable to the contractor.
Checks may be sent to the attention of Assistant Community Manager Al Raimo who will coordinate the ordering and payment to the contractor. No credit cards will be accepted. Checks may be mailed to: BCA, 3001 E. Boundary Ter., Midlothian, VA 23112.

Sub-Associations

Neighborhoods of Gleneagles, Muirfield Green, Spinnaker Cove, and Woodbridge Crossing. Units will remain with existing design and color. At such time as the sub-associations would like to change their units, they will submit plans to the ARB for approval.

Covenant Enforcement

• Maintenance of existing units. BCA will sell brown paint until the end of the transition period, December 31, 2013.
• Mandatory replacement of existing brown units, prior to end of transition.
a. Upon such time as the mailbox unit is deemed a standard violation that can no longer be adequately repaired.
b. Upon disclosure (will be noted in disclosure package) or purchase, sale or transfer of the property.
• Dual Standards. Home owners with brown mailbox units that are well maintained will be allowed to keep their units until the end of the transition period. Homeowners desiring the new units, regardless of the condition of the brown unit, are encouraged and allowed to switch at any time. Homeowners that allow green posts and black mailboxes (new design) to fall into disrepair or become unsightly, will be sent a standards violation notice.

Name on structure

Name plates were not approved as part of the new design structure, and are not allowed.

Commercial Establishments

BCA staff will notify those with brown units and advise them of the new design and seek voluntary compliance. At this time, commercial design standards are silent on mailbox choices.
